TIPS: Working from Home (WFH) Wellness, Connection & Personal Branding Over Video Conference

Working from home used to be so much fun – when you had the choice…not because you have to.

I don't know about you, but everything feels very surreal. Like nothing I've experienced in my lifetime. The energy around COVID-19 feels understandably fearful and greedy, and if we don't manage ourselves, it will be destructive personally and globally.

It's time for ultimate self-care to ensure mind, body, and spirit health so that we can support ourselves and those around you.

Following are two simple, practical videos to get us back to basics. In all the uncertainty, we seem to forgotten our foundations.

Wellness Practices So Obvious, Yet We're Not Doing Them

It's time for ultimate self-care. Yet, all I hear from clients is that they feel tired, sore, achy, overwhelmed, and for some reason have forgotten their wellness routines.

This video offers five reminders – be kind to yourself.

One of the tips in the above video is to stretch often. Here are two of my favorite videos to do that to. Otherwise, I just get on my yoga mat and do what my body tells me to do 🐌. And I realized that:

"My life is as limber as my body is. Invest time in S-T-R-E-T-C-H-ing"

Connecting Over Video Conference

Play Video

The number of times I've run and/or attended video conference sessions that have started late because of the technology. Now that we're WFH, we don't have the corporate tech power behind us, such as it was, which makes it even more challenging to truly connect.

We can't see people's faces and can hardly hear them at times. They're often multi-tasking, on their computers and doing other work.

Personally, I've done keynotes with hundreds in remote audiences, ran training sessions to teams all over the worlds and quite honestly, I don't feel a separation because I'm not in their location.

Believe it or not, social media, has caused a disconnection, and what we're experiencing now has taken it to a whole other level. We're not sure how long this situation will go on for,  and I feel like its really important we amplify relationships.

In this video I give you three tips to:

    1. Support your personal brand; you have one, it's either intentional or unintentional, you choose. And hopefully during this time your ‘brand' is infused with kindness, support and encouragement.
    2. Give your home tech a fighting chance, including managing noise, and
    3. Avoid embarrassing desktop notifications, you may not want to share onscreen 😉. Here are the Mac and PC resources I mentioned in the video to turn off notifications. And this app works on both operating systems.

Incorporating Mindfulness at Work

We live in a fast-paced work environment that is digitally enabled, and many of the things that are SUPPOSED to simplify our lives actually leave us feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

Discover the secrets to achieving a more balanced state at work – everyone from Oprah to Google employees are doing it! In fact, Oprah claims it makes her 1000% better.

It’s mindfulness!

So, what exactly is mindfulness? Mindfulness is a state of active attention on what you’re sensing and feeling, right here, right now, without interpretation or judgment.

You may not be overly familiar with the concept of mindfulness, but I can guarantee you’re well acquainted with its flip side: distractedness, inattention, and lack of engagement.

15-Minutes to Ground Your Success

The aim of this 15-minute relaxation audio is to relieve your mind of busy-ness, reconnect with Quantum energy and access inspiration that fuels your happiness and potential.
Those listening to this audio found their ‘monkey mind’, the chatter that clutters their brain, was reduced by 60%. The number increased to 80% if they listened 3 to 4 times a week.

The technique I’m gifting you can be practiced anywhere, anytime. But because mindfulness is about being present, let’s do a short practice now.

  • – Take a deep breath in with me, close your eyes if you safely can, and in this very moment, what are you sensing and feeling?
  • – What do you feel on your skin?
  • – What’s your mood like?
  • – Is your breathing shallow and quick or relaxed?
  • – Are you feeling; overwhelmed, peaceful, tired, happy?
  • – What can you hear nearby and outside?
  • – Take a deep breath in, can you smell anything?
  • – Now, open your eyes.

Welcome to conscious mindfulness. It’s the opposite of what we experience each day.

Why is being present so overwhelming, and what’s with the ‘monkey mind’?

According to neuroscience, the scientific study of our nervous system, our brain is not only in charge of managing our physicality, such as breathing, muscle movement, heart pumping…it’s also processing 400 billion bits of information per minute. Of which we can only process 2000 bits.

No wonder I can’t remember what I ate for lunch yesterday!!

And we’re only consciously aware of about .00001 percent, less than one-ten-thousandth of what’s available to use – otherwise we’d be so overloaded that we literally could not compute.

The benefit of mindfulness is that it allows us to zone into the succulence of life, literally, to “stop and smell the roses”

The practice isn’t just some “ohhhhmmm” chanting that should be relegated to Buddhist monks. We spend, on average, 90,000 hours of our life at work! So, the benefits of incorporating this habit into our work life to reduce stress and heighten satisfaction, offers amazing benefits!

Google ran a ‘search inside yourself’ mindfulness program with over 13,000 participants who reported:

  • – 34 percent less emotional drain after the program.
  • – 32 percent greater ability to focus and be more effective.
  • – 29 percent improvement in their ability to maintain calm and poise during challenges.
  • – Productivity increases of 62 minutes per week, adding up to USD$3000 per employee, per annum.

Their experience isn’t isolated, with a number of companies experiencing the same benefits when it comes to stress management, engagement, focus and productivity. If you’d like to discover how introduce a mindfulness practice into your team or company reach out to me via my website or social media.

There are answers to those questions that keep rolling around in your just need to ask

I'm not sure if you're like me, but there are times when I just have the same thoughts mulling through my mind, and most of the time they're not positive.

I'm a great believer of ‘better out than in'. My mind being consumed means it's burning valuable energy I could use to do something positive instead of ruminating without resolution.

One day I thought, “I'm a reality alchemist, why don't I just sit, with pen and paper, ask what's going on in relation to what I'm thinking and see what happens?”

That simple activity was life changing and I now call it my Quantum Q&A time. Where I stop trying to solve the problem with the same mechanism that created it – the limited mind.

Instead I tap into the vast, omnipotent quantum realm where everything exists, has happened as there's no time and space, and see what comes up.

The best thing is, anyone can do it!!

Here's my process, you can be guided by it, or in your Quantum Q&A ask, “Is there a better way for me to get answers to my questions?”

My Quantum Q&A Process

  1. I set aside some time where I won't be interrupted.
  2. I grab pen and paper, a study of students at Princeton and the University of California found that we have better comprehension when information is handwritten. I also find there is a flow of information that comes through my pen.
  3. I take a few deep breathes, breathing in and out of my heart-space (not where your physical heart is, but in the middle of the chest). This helps me feel more centered, and present to the process.
  4. I write down the letter ‘Q' and my question.

Then I write the letter ‘A', and just start writing, without judgement.

I repeat this process for as long as the information comes through, or the time I've set aside. Sometimes, it's a 5-minute session, and at others, an hour has passed.

  5. I take action or respond with my new knowing.

"How do I know I didn't just make the answers up?"

I get asked this question a LOT, here's what I've gathered from the process:

  • – If it feels ‘good', it's often your inner guidance, if it's feels fearful, worrisome or ‘icky' (technical term) that's often the ego at play, fighting for its existence and identity.

Remember, you're the boss of your mind, not the other way around! You can say something like, “I appreciate that you're trying to ‘protect' me, but it's not working for me.  We're going to try something different, so you're either with me, or get out of the way.”

  • – Ask great questions. I'm quite specific, “Why do I have all this tension in my lower back?” as opposed to “Why does my body hurt?” The more specific, the better response. But sometimes I'm vast.
  • So what if you made it up (but I doubt it)?  If it feels good go with it.  What's the worst that can happen? You'll feel positively delusional…better than drowning in fear, worry, and doubt.
I'm always astonished by the insights I receive, and how beautifully they're written. There's no way my confused mind could have written so prolifically.

Sharing my Quantum Q&A Insights

I thought I'd share some of the insights I've received:

Q: Why do I feel so guilty about going with the flow of I what I want to do, rather than what I think I have to do?

A: The most important thing you must do is what inspires you in the present. The guilt arises from your mind trying to take control and rob you of your flow, your natural, more joyful state of being. As opposed to the striving of the mind which is programed into you.

If you choose to avoid a task, then do it with joy, never guilt.

Your choices are: either be joyful in what you're doing, or shut up about it and just do the avoided task. NOTE: the ‘shut-up' bit was a part of me telling myself to wake-up and stop my shenanigans. It's not unkind, just a way of reminding me that I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Q: Why are my legs and lower back so stiff when I'm usually so flexible?

A: Even though you have given up sugar, there are still foods that inhibit your body and energy flow. Experiment to determine your optimum intake. You can also energetically cleanse your food with the Ho'oponopono.

The lower back stiffness is indicating that you don't feel supported. It is imperative that you ask for help. You are not alone on this journey.

Q: Why do I feel like I'm not getting what I desire?

A: You don't ask… Short and to the point, and an amazing insight, and so true! Straight after, I started thinking of, and proclaiming all the things I'd find exciting – instant shift and manifestation.

Q: I feel like I get so much inspiration, I don't know where to start, or I half finish things because the next brilliant idea arises.

A: Firstly, if you start something, finish it before going onto the next initiative. It will make you feel successful and fulfilled, but more importantly you will be honoring your purpose.

Secondly, from time-to-time the distractions are saboteurs creeping in. Interestingly, I had no intention of writing this blog, I had other plans… Originally this was just a post on social media and then I was inspired to provide more value by outlining the process, guidance on how to overcome trust and faith in your wisdom, and provide examples to illustrate how simple, yet profound, the process can be.

You ARE Unique, and Have Gifts to Contribute

I met up with my phenomenal friend Jill, and the conversation turned to the fires in Australia and how her friend's son is a volunteer.

She asked, “Is he getting counselling?” as she acknowledged post-traumatic stress is a by-product of these harrowing situations. Apparently, at this stage, he is not, but that's probably because they are trying to handle the matter at hand.

Koala on the road

Over 20 People Have Lost their Lives & Close to 500-million Wildlife have Perished

The stories have been distressing and heart-warming. Thousands of people have gone through severe and life-changing trauma which consciously or unconsciously takes a toll on our mental health.

During my discussion, I said, “Maybe I can volunteer.” But as I was driving home, I realized I can do something NOW.

I decided to do a Facebook live-stream to share two powerful practices that relieve anxiety.

My aim is to be of service to those who are immersed in the situation. And also to those who are watching, hearing, and talking about the fires, and are feeling helpless.

These two practices WORK, if you believe in them or not. And, it's in times like these where we need a little faith. The practices are:

Sugar & Wheat Free, Skip the Choc Chips & It's Also Vegan

Food has been one of my greatest challenges, so when I transformed my body, I had to come up with substitutions that aligned with my new lifestyle.

This gooey delicious treat can be made in less than 10-minutes and the ingredients are part of my pantry basics.

I focus on sugar-free options as much as I can because I find it inflames me, and I like to be able to move…

Living in Australia it's sometimes challenging to find healthy alternatives, so this recipe refers to local brands but the ingredients can be found in most places.

I'm a reluctant cook, so recipes have to be quick, easy, and delicious.

The reason why I try to be as sugar-free as possible is because it inflames my joints, and that can't be good for you!

Check out the video because I'm far better at explaining how to do it, than writing a recipe.

Top this gooey deliciousness with ice cream.  Note, many of the following are almost sugar-free, but check the labels. I used Ben & Jerry's P.B. Preheat oven to 350F / 165oC.

Combine all wet ingredients and mix well.

Add dry ingredients, except for chocolate chips. You're aiming for a cookie-like dough. You can always add 1-2 tablespoons of milk if it's too crumbly, don't add all at once, just a little at a time, until you get the desired consistency.

Then add the chocolate chips.

Grab a square baking pan, approx 23cm / 9 in, and line with baking paper.

Overall cooking time is about 10-minutes. I turn it at 5-minutes. Just watch it depending on your oven.

When you take it out, it won't feel ‘set', that's OK, as that's the gooey magic in action. Leave it for 30-minutes and it will set perfectly. You can refrigerate for about a week if it lasts that long 🙂

Most times, when I run a keynote or Master Class, I have people ask me versions of, “How long have you been doing this, and how did it start?”

Q: How long?

A: I've been on a personal development journey for 15-years, and I turned this passion into my profession 10-years ago and then took it to another level in 2013.

Q: How did it start?

A: With me. I was my own guinea pig. I witnessed the difference it made to lifelong challenges I wanted to shift: weight, finance, and relationships.

Q: How did it turn into my ‘job'?

A:  Little by little. When I look back, I was infusing the essence of what I currently do since I started working in marketing. I'd get emails and notes from people I'd worked with saying, “You may not realize it, but you made a difference in my life.” It wasn't intentional, I was just ‘being me' – but I later understood that being authentic is a huge gift.

Was I perfect? Hardly! Decades ago, I was judgemental, insecure, always beating myself up, and there's a residue that occassionally lingers to this day. The list goes on… BUT, I suppose others witnessed my essence when I wasn't sabotaging it with fear, worry, and doubt.

Basically, my ‘selfish' pursuit to ‘fix' myself evolved into a selfless pursuit of service.

During different stages in my life my response changes, so I'll give you the one I say today. Which focuses on WHY I currently do what I do.

Simply, I want to be happy…

And, at this stage, I can't imagine doing anything else. Because YOU and I are my inspiration…

Happy 2019!

I wanted to start the year of by sharing the end of year and new year ritual I did.

But for those of you are interested in numerology, it's a ‘3′ year. which embodies joy, creativity, communication, emotional sensitivity, expression and socializing.  So basically we get to have a lot of expression where we are whole-heartedly passion driven, more in free-spirited flow and inject this into every part of our lives.  Sounds like a whole lot of f-u-n to me!

My birth year is also a ‘3', so I'm excited to really amplify my natural state and I'm currently in an 8 year:

“In an 8 Personal year everything appears to be magnified… thus what you focus your attention on this year you will receive more of. In an 8 Personal Year you will tend to have that certain je ne sais quoi, that intangible quality that makes you desirable and attractive to others… it is up to you whether you flaunt it or stick you head in the sand and hide it ! When you focus positively on abundance in finances, career & wealth this year… expect returns to flow much more easily this year. But of course, if you go into the poverty stricken ‘woe is me’, well you will truly manifest that reality and have a most woeful year on record. You have the potential of the ‘midas touch’ this year, the world is your oyster should you choose believe in yourself.”

OM gosh, I can't tell you how into the above I AM. I'm choosing to ‘flaunt it', have an amplified ‘positive focus', ‘believe in myself' and ‘Midas touch' to high heaven!

Appreciation and Gratitude for the Lessons of 2018

I'm super excited about this year as I feel like 2018 was better for me than the previous year where I dealt with a number of losses in my life and experienced emotional lows during the first quarter. But I also know that what ‘doesn't kill you makes you stronger' 😉

I had three things that followed me like a black cloud that I'd persistently delayed because I was too scared to handle them and 2018 marked the COMPLETION of all three that revolved around: finances, relationships and business. YAY ME!!!!!

I ended 2018 by writing down what I appreciate from the lessons I've experienced along the way, not just in the past 12-months but in life. Here's an insight:

I APPRECIATE and am GRATEFUL for the following lessons and experiences:

  • Weight challenges – without you, I would never have embarked on a spiritual journey. And to finally achieve my ‘ideal weight' – it's like I won the lotto!
  • $ challenges – as above, without you I would never have learned and grown. I now understand that finances = safety & security to me and that it's an extension of what I perceive my worth to be. I'm so grateful for the beautiful ‘stuff' and lifestyle I've manifested. But more importantly, the memories and experiences money has afforded me.
  • Relationships – thanks to all the men in my life who have allowed me to hone what I truly desire in a committed, divine, soul-mate.
  • Purpose fulfillment – as many of you know, my business IS my purpose. I can remember over 15 years a go driving to a job and being in tears of sadness and frustration thinking, “WHY am I still doing what I'm doing??? Why haven't I written the books that are in me, done the keynote, mentored amazing people?” You've taught me perseverance, to trust in the process of life and to stop traumatizing myself with negative charges that  don't serve me. I get there in the end, when I'm ready. Five books and 1000s of talks and coaching sessions later – I got there and will continue to expand my purposeful-passion.
  • Depression – you've taught me, OK forced me, to honor my emotions instead of pushing them away.
  • Love – for every time I haven't been loved for who I am, it has taught me to love unconditionally, and I continue to express that expansiveness.
  • Sugar, you are the Devil's substance – sugar inflames my body, puts me in a food coma and just doesn't make me feel ‘well'. I now know that you're not my friend. Eating you will not fill an emotional hole. And if I want something sweet, I've got a whole bunch of sugar-free treats in my baking repertoire.
  • Criticism – self-critisism: you've taught me to embrace self-love more-and-more. Critics: you've helped me to realize that I'm here doing the Universe's work, and for the most part, I'm coming from a heart-centered place.  So, I'm not open to you projecting your insecurities, self-loathing and negativity onto me. I am only open to feedback from those I admire, respect and / or love. To all the critics, here's a video message I made for you!

The above process allowed me to acknowledge and be grateful my journey. Without it, I would never have evolved into the person I am to today.

It also allowed me to free myself of past hurt, disappointment and sadness. Each and everyone of these challenges was a blessing and invitation to learn and grow.  For a few of the lessons that I repeated, well that was a simple case of ‘let go or be dragged', as in the past I tended to hold onto things longer than I needed to.

I truly believe life is supposed to be fun and easy for the most part.

The Person I CHOOSE to BE in 2019 and Beyond

I realized last year that I was ‘playing small', yes, believe it or not…

I feel like I've got sooooooo much more to contribute, and I was holding back. Part of my ‘good-bye and thank you' 2018 ritual was acknowledging those reasons, appreciating that they served me back then, but I NOW CHOOSE a more FLOURISHING existence.

After I wrote my appreciation and gratitude list. I wrote what the best version of myself looks like and committed to playing in that zone.

Here's a portion of what I wrote:

  • Body Confidence – people often think I'm a confident person. And in many ways I am, but for those of you who have followed my journey, I've never really felt comfortable in my skin. My weight has always challenged me, and even when I released it (I never say “lost” as I don't want to “find” it again ;)), I've never felt body-confident. I know I'm ‘beautiful' on the inside, but I also want to feel beautiful on the outside. This year, I'm going to take mental and physical steps to get that aligned.

  • Contribution – A week doesn't go by without receiving beautiful words, emails and  texts from people who've said I'm a positive influence in their lives and I've “changed their life”. Firstly, I'm just a conduit and facilitator for change, truth and embracing limitless potential. THEY did all the work, I am just an honored witness and cheerleader to their journey. And here's the thing. I can BE and DO so much more. Take whatever ‘magic' you think I have and spread that fairy-dust to even more people who want to renew their mind, unlock their potential and upgrade their life.Plus, that's my JOYFUL expression of my soul. I can't imagine not doing it.So, this year I'm choosing to be even MORE service!

  • ALLOWING, ACCEPTING AND RECEIVING my Alchemic Manifestation – I know I'm a powerful co-creator, but in the past I haven't fully allowed, accepted and received this abundance into my life. I tell clients that the Universe has so many gifts it wants to give us and we're like fish looking for water. It's everywhere, but we don't fully let it in.I've reflected, and decided I'm just operating on old data, so this year I'm rebooting.

  • Meditation – UGH!! This is my new aversion, like gratitude was in the past. I ‘sort of' meditate because I feel like I'm constantly connected and downloading insights all the time – that was my excuse.  But just like gratitude, meditation is persisting in being part of my daily practice. My aim is to do 20-minutes a day, but a minimum of 10 if I feel like I don't have the time. But I must MAKE the time, because I've realized that meditation is my daily foundation and I'm going to choose to set that foundation with intent each and every day. And as with gratitude, I expect my world to change for the better.

  • Ditch doubt – for goodness sake, how much more evidence do I need that I can BE-DO-HAVE anything I choose to co-create. I'm going to redirect that wasted energy into fueling my desires.

  • Socialize – OK, when most people meet me they think I'm a Social Queen and I go to movie premieres every night LOL. But, those closest to me know that I'm a bit of a hermit.  I think it's because I expend so much energy in my work that I revel in my quiet time. And then I go out and always enjoy it, so here's to more fun!

  • Be more balanced – in the past I've tended to be an ‘all' or ‘nothing' type of gal. I now choose to be more balanced. I'll continue to work through inspiration, but also, manage my energy better.

  • Revel in being a woman –  I love being a woman! And I'm going to continue on my journey of being more ‘in flow' (feminine energy). Plus, I love all the beautiful things that come with being a woman.

  • Amplify my desired states – I now relish in feeling safe and secure, love, joy, abundance, peace and health.

What I'm Going to KEEP Doing

I always say, “do more of what works for you”. So here's what I'm going to continue doing:

  • Treat friends like family – I am truly grateful to each and everyone of you and the gifts you bring. Some of you have literally saved my life – thank you!

  • Love my parents – it's only my mom and I now as my dad passed away in October 2017. I will continue to love them in my own f@*ked up way 😉

  • Be authentic – in truth, I only know how to be me. Sure, different people may experience gradients of that, but my truth prevails.

  • Live whole-heartedly – I LOVE LOVE. And, I'm going to continue that. In the past I've allowed myself to be abandoned, dis-honored, hurt – basically I've had normal relationships.  I'm truly grateful to each and everyone of those men for the lessons they've taught me about what I do and don't want in a partner. And I know I'll find a beautiful soul-mate to share my life with, who supports me on all levels, is inspirational, loving, committed, available and passionate. BTW, thanks for all the marriage proposals this year, but unless you've cultivated a relationship with me beyond Facebook, I'll have to decline.

  • Wear rose colored glasses – yes, I will continue to be annoyingly positive.

  • Allow myself moments of negativity – every so often those rose colored glasses have to come off, I'm human after-all, and it's important I acknowledge the feelings that don't always feel the best.

  • Love being of service – I can't imagine any other way.

  • Surround myself with inspiring people – I had the honor of working with an AMAZING high-performance team in 2018 and I loved every minute I spent with them. Each and everyone of them was a gift to me, and I choose more of that. I also met new friends that totally inspire me and I “thank” them for coming into my life. And of course, “thank you” to my long-term inspirations!

  • Learn and grow – I'll continue to study, heal and evolve.

  • Have a ‘good talk' to myself – most people are experts at beating themselves up, but I decided to take a twist on that by saying things like, “You can do this. Put your big girl's panties on, and get on with it. You're only robbing yourself!” It worked!

  • Be grateful – OMgosh, I have soooooooo much to be grateful for, all of this list ++++++.

  • Cherish my fur-babies – they are delightful teachers of unconditional love and joy. Minka recently co-starred in a video talking about unconditional love. How friggin' cute is that dog??!!!!

  • Do incremental changes that make monumental differences – everyday I write down 2-3 non-negotiable things I have to DO, and I don't care if it's 3am, they're getting done. This has been a game-changer for me as it not only means I'm honoring and keeping promises to myself, but I also feel successful and fulfilled through the achievements it creates.

  • Bring my ‘best self' to every situation and relationship – I choose to be present and honoring of the person in front of me.

  • Be selfish – yup, that's what I said! I truly believe that in order for me to be the greatest gift to the world, I have to feel ‘full' myself, otherwise, I have nothing to give, or I'm sharing a version of myself that's not optimal and nobody wins.

My Invitation to You

As many of you know, I'm an Action Queen. So, I invite you to start your 2019 by joining me in the process I outlined above.

Step 1

  • Write down your life's lessons.
  • Truly appreciate and be grateful for them as they're the catalyst of your divine growth.
  • Let them go…they're your past, and you are the co-creator of your present and future. You don't need to keep struggling through the same drudgery time-and-time again.
  • Share.

Step 2

  • Decide who you're going to BE from this point on-wards. Is it more clear, confident, focused, fulfilled, authentic, honoring, loving?
  • Think of yourself this day in 2020 and ask yourself, “What would I be disappointed in myself for not doing in a year's time?”Now I could have framed that in a more positive way, but for some reason, most people tend to respond better to the stick than the carrot. So ask yourself that question and then DO it. So, this time next year, you're celebrating that success!!

Step 3

Write, sing, play a theme song for yourself. Here's mine, This is Me by Ke$ha, it's even my ring tone! For we ARE GLORIOUS!

Step 4

Share the love. Let me know in the comments below some of the things you're going to stop, start and continue doing. It's not much fun for me having a one way conversation 🙂

Happy New Year to you all. Wishing you an ABUNDANCE of all you DESIRE.

P.S. My toast to you on New Year's Eve. Yes, I have a glass of champagne. Yes, I nursed it all night. And, YES, it will probably be the only drink I have all year as most of you know I'm not much of a ‘drinker'. I prefer water and diet soda (don't even go there on the latter ;))
